Happy Valentines Day to all WhippetArt Friends! When I recently painted my first cat, I had no idea I would be painting birds next! I was motivated to do a piece for an AIDS Benefit at Hampton House Gallery in Winston-Salem, NC this month and the requirements were that no entry could be larger than 9x12. Obviously dogs were out because I paint life size. I had painted some birds in the past for friends and relatives so birds it was to be. The event was great fun AND I won Best in Show AND the piece sold, yielding a percentage $$$ for the local AIDS organization. Here is Chickadee Gathering...
For those of you who were unable to attend Yappy Hour at City Art Gallery in Greenville, NC this fall, you can visit this link and see the great pictures: http://www.cityartgreenville.com/openingreceptionYappyHour.html
There's never a dull moment in a WhippetArt photo shoot. Here's the proof. Jack Russells are very quick! Luckily, I did end up with some beautiful whole body shots!
Finally, made WhippetArt.com an equal opportunity website...We now have cats. Here's my first cat, Pepper. He is a cherished family member and now he is a "forever cat" with his own portrait.
Pepper 15x30, acrylic on canvas
He hangs in a highly trafficked location and greets all who come to this very special home. If you look carefully you can see Mr. Pepper strolling through the kitchen.
Whippet News It's official! I'll be taking whippetart.com on the road this April at the American Whippet Club 2009 National Specialty in Atlanta, Georgia. The dates are April 5-11, 2009 at the Hilton Atlanta Airport. Imagine hundreds of whippets in a hotel and great vendors for your every whippet need and desire!
What better place to hang your pups' portrait than in the kitchen! These IG Texans have the catbird seat in this lovely home.
Here is one of my latest portraits. These handsome fellows live at the beach in North Carolina. This is a good example of how to achieve drama in a portrait with two pups. This piece is 30x40 to capture these gorgeous dogs in life size.
Here is a sample of pairing your pups with matching head and shoulders shots. These pieces are versatile and emphasize how much you can do with design in individual portraits and complementary diptychs. These can be hung horizontally or vertically as shown.
"Max" 24x24, Acrylic on canvas
"Mocha" 24x24, Acrylic on canvas
The photo session adventures continue! Portraits are on their way!
Don't call this little Coton de Tulear a lap dog!
This lovely little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was the perfect model.
I had no trouble getting these two North Carolina labs, Mocha (top) and Max, to focus! |
